LAKE EL SALTO BASS FISHING EQUIPMENT
I have seen more big fish lost, unprompted Reels, for bad drags and old/bad line, I can't stress enough the importance of proper tackle maintenance. Remember if you have a question about tackle maintenance try your local tackle shop or e-mail Hono Elizalde.
Reels (Baitcasting OR Spinning); should be lubed regularly and drags checked often.
Rods; check the guides on every rod to make sure that none of your inserts are cracked or missing. A good tip is to use a q-tip to check the guides for cracks or rough surfaces the cotton on the q-tip will stick to any cracks or imperfections in the guides.
Your Casting : Don't forget to check back often for more tips and techniques, Practice Your Casting; Lake El Salto, is a man made lake, you will see it is covered in trees and it will affect the accuracy of your casting, same that can play an important role in your success. If you never fished before atn this lake, you should try to get in at least 15 minutes a day of casting practice. The practice will go a long way in keeping you out of the trees and in the water where the fish are!

Hola Amigos, during last El Salto Adventures Promotion Trip to Bass Pro Shop in California, it was a great opportunity to see by myself an important item in your Gear, the Line !
Well, I am always looking to have the best Gear to guarantee all the fishermen to witness the best experience and successful in a Bass Fishing Trip. Therefore, in this promotion trip, I had the opportunity to test all the lines.
Up there at Bass Pro Shop, they have a huge selection of these; well the purpose was to spend one week there, but the most important, was to test and buy the best line ! I went directly to the flourocarbon stand, as because of my expertise, I knew this is good in bait casting reels, but not in Spinning Reels, the memory on these is really bad.

The second choice was Mono, but the problem is even though it is of high quality, the biggest you find is only on 14 pounds; besides, after using it for one day, you need to respool it, because it turns to be so heavy and you can not cast as far as 20’f. We have to lose the line, like if you were trolling in the ocean in order to get a better stretch; that take us out of the action, which it is not GOOD !
Let us talk about Braid Line, well to start with, my guides do not like it ! and for me it is too bad to have these in my equipment because the rod lose the eyes, reels break, because, the line have something like knives; the belt Spring system break at the time you get hooked on trees, and when trying to unhook it, the rods break very easy, no matter what the brand is.
I can tell you many fishermen get really mad and unhappy after they break a couple of expensive rods over 2 to 4 hundred dollars on the same day ! Yes, they can replace the rods, but you miss the action at the right moment, and it is hard to have confidence in other stuff.

As you can imagine, it was a big decision to make, the line has to be one you can find anywhere !
If you are looking for a strong line and use a braid line and a piece of leader, this will break, the rod guides, the knot that hold both lines (leader & Braid), come off, and it is really a bad thing when happens. Some of the braid lines get damaged when you set a hook on fish, (thats why I strongly recomended to retie the line every half hour). Also if you tie the hook on the braid, by the time you set the hook, the line come off from the eye hook. This line is so thick and that is why it is easy to get throughout the eye hook. In my expertise, it happens a lot. When you have a big fish, the fish try to jump out, but at the same time, the fish try to jumpback, so then you lose the control, but you always have the tension, wich it helps the fish to come off.
Well GOOD NEWS, I found a line specially designed for those Bass Trophy Hunters. In my expertise, is one of the main stuff you need and I know there are a lot of them, some are good, or really famous brand and others are strong but it can not fit in your reel.
When you come to fish at Lake El Salto, myself as a guide get really upset when someone lose a Trophy Bass by not using the right line, the worst part is when you use a big braid line as these are strong, but some times your lure just come off or the line breaks at the time you cast; mostly when you caught a fish, no matter if it is smalll or big, you have to cast to the other side to lose the tightness of the spool.
Besides this line being so strong, it has a very big diameter, wich means less line on your reel, and it is hard to cast, believe me, it is not fun at all.

It is weird but some Californian Bass Fishermen, do not know much about the BPS Equipment and they have a big store there; I do not know if its been just a coincidence. Well, I know the Rancho Cucamonga store have been there for a couple of years.
