The structures are great, the bass have the perfect covers and it is there just waiting for you! The latest multi fishing days customers were having a great fishing time, numbers as much as 75 to 100, per person per Day!
As always the combination of the right lure, the right guide & Hono tackle recommendations will make you succeed at El Salto. Hono will provide the List of suggested Gear & tackle. Make sure not to buy a similar, almost more expensive, than the ones I suggest, my tackle list, will give you the most successful fishing time ever!, Like Mike and his brother they did not bring any tackle, just use Hono´s, the firs day caught 90 Bass,9.5 the biggest, almost between the two brother the five fish limit was 76 Lb. the second day was a 78, but the 5 fish limit was bigger than the first day, Mike caught, 3 Bass, over eleven (11) Lb, + 3, 7 Lbs. countless 4 to 6, ( 47 Lb.) Rob, his brother caught 41 Lb, in his five fish, 88 Lb. the second Day, the third day, was crazy over 115 lb. in the both five fish limit.
After the first hour fishing on the first day they were telling me this, Hono you really say the truth about the lures, when I see you lure and tackle list, and check on mi tackle, nothing have even the size of the hook, ALSO NEVER USE THE SAME LURE ON MORNINGS, your guide service is so nice, you fish 10 hours, but effective, this means, American way, day time business night for is for rest, I have been fishing in USA and other lakes in Mexico too before, but nothing like this, nice Breakfast, Lunch and we comeback about 4:45, take a shower dinner about 6:30 PM. The most beautiful sunset, the dinner, is not unexpected, is just over the standards. Our group was, me, mi brother Rob, Father and son from New Jersey, Bob and Little Bob (Dan), The have almost the same, balance about fishing, but the kid, 12 years old, caught one 12.11 Lb. so far, is the biggest on season 07/08, we bet them but he caught the biggest.

Because you will finish the awesome action on the first hours of the fishing Trip, and catch one good fish, you start getting frustrated, because your fishing partner brought , the entire list, and he is catching all trophies and numbers: In my experience sometimes, people want to fish with the same lures than they fish at their home lake and they do not achieve the same action, (no trophies) and the worst part of this is, there are no tackle stores close to Lake El Salto, for bass fishing, the price for these in case you find something, are crazy! 4 to 6 times expensive! I mean it is a long way to Lake El Salto to end catching just few bass.
As a good recommendation, Some of my Friends (Customers), normally fish on their own lake, Delta North Ca, Casitas Sth Ca, Arizona Lake, Colorado, Texas, Ohio, Missouri, Florida, Etc., and they always have on a storage of lures used on their own lakes, but they have a separate tackle for Lake El Salto, and I mean everything like hard lures, plastics, rods, reels, line, hooks., etc. And you know why ? Because El Salto is a different kind of fishing and lures used here are very specific.

A special recommendation about rods and reels as there is a large selection. Some people want the newest or the more popular or the most expensive. However, Hono Wants just the right ones. Yes, the ones that can hold the Lake El Salto Trophies.
The line is a very important topic. For those who love the braid line and use a baitcasting reel, you must know this. Lake El Salto Trophies, will give you some trebles, not just the big ones, also the small ones of 2 to 3 Lb. Bass, Hono Knows this line is so strong, but when you get a bass this line get into the spool line, when you are ready to cast, the line break so easy and you lose your lures, start getting a bad bird nest, also some people use a leader at front of the braid line, really I hate that, when you use a 300 USD, Rod and the rod tip come off, or of the eye rod broke, at the time you get some pressure with a good Bass, the line brake, besides this, is there is not yet a hook to hold the braid line on size 5/0 or 4/0 the line is so thin, By the time you get a good bass, this will jump out of the water and the line come off from the hook eye, and really is not funny, for baitcasting the best and no questions is Mono, there are good mono ´s, or fluorocarbons, the best is 17 to 20 LB.
For spinning gear you best will be The braid line, my best recommendations are, Excel, Power Pro, Tuf Line Etc. the right one is 30 Lb. |

The last week I was having a talk with one of my friends, regular costumer, and I asked him if this time they will come to El Salto, an he told me, Hono sorry but, we will go to lake Garrada, this time, you know, we were trying a new lake, and I ask how was the fishing, not like El Salto but was OK, however their guide services are more expensive. After that I tell him, for you information, next time you can come to fish with me, on the same deal they have, but 300USD, more Expensive, I will give you the most inexpert guide and I let you fish with inappropriate lures, and I laugh hahahahaha…….he say this is true Hono that’s happen to Us, Normally with your service, sometimes we do not touch a fish during the entire day, also we do not tie a hook or lure on the three days of fishing, as the guide do everything for us.
On the top of the bad service we get with other outfitters, they want us to get drunk to supersede the bad fishing, because as soon as we get to the shore they say: margarita, cerveza or Tequila, Hono I do not drink so this is useless!, I was pissed off, but one of my friends tell me one really true. Here we are, paying a lot of money for nothing. When we go to El Salto and use Hono´s Guide service we get everything ready for us and we pay a lot less money wit him. We better do not tell Hono about it. I mean we always put a group of 6 to 9 people almost every year and we are all happy with Hono´s services, so let us not go to try other lakes in Mexico. Let´s stick to Lake El Salto amigos. |

As you can see on this picture, it is common to get few doubles or triples, during the whole day, numbers, sizes, and good trophies, as normal per boat minimum 80 Mexican bass, and the best trophy was 11.7 Lb., and countless, from 2 to 9 Lb. so you must get ready, you will enjoy besides the good fishing also de good weather, here is the end of winter, and the weather during the mornings, 68 and 78 at day time, so head south to El Salto to hunt the MEGA BASS and enjoy a Lifetime Adventure with us.

01/05/08.- As usual, Just good news, from Lake El Salto, this fall & winter was the confirmation, since last June the all-time lure is back.
Hono and Claudia,
First let me thank you for the fishing trip of a lifetime. The time my son and I spent fishing with you will be memories both of us will cherish for a lifetime. For anyone wanting to spend some quality time with their children, I would whole heartily recommend this trip. Hono, you and your guides were great. You really knew where the fish were. And your “secret” bait was fantastic. We saw other guide services fishing in the same areas as we were and they were hardly catching any fish. We were pulling in lunkers the whole trip.
We caught between 80 to 100 fish a day, and by the time we got back to the lodge we were so tired, it was time to eat and get to bed so we could do it again the next day. I would say that our average fish was about 4 pounds. But that is the average of all the fish. We caught an 11lb 3 oz, a 10lb, a 8lb, and several in the 6 to 7lbs range. I have never seen action this great on one lake. Hono, please feel free to give out my contact information is anyone who would like a reference on your guide service. Have a good 2008 and my son and I will see you again this year. Thanks again…..

Fortunately the past rainy season was great and Lake El Salto got its normal water levels; up to date it shows a 100%.
The structures are just great, the bass have the perfect covers and it is there just waiting for you!

As promised, I am writing to thank you for your great knowledge of El Salto and Bass in general. You made one fisherman's dreams come true. I thought I knew alot about bass and their habits, but you really gave me an education. My recent charter with you was the greatest day of bass fishing I have ever experienced. I have never seen, let alone caught more big fish.
Most guys who are really students of the sport don't even expect that so many huge, healthy & mean as hell bass even existed in one place. The right rod, reel, line, knot, lure and action all coming together at the same time over a school of big bass is something I never thought could even happen. When we fish in California, the right pattern happens occasionally, but never to this level. Over 100 bass and at least 50 of them were over 4 pounds, with the biggest weighing in at 8 lb. 7 oz. Just bass after bass after bass for 3.5 hours. When our charter expired, my arms didn't work anymore.
You were a great host, and a greater guide...AND, what's even better than the trip is that we caught and released every single fish alive and healthy so that the next guy can enjoy them as much as I did.
Kirt and I will be back this same time next year, so just put my equipment away in a safe place and I will e-mail you to book our next trip.

Nov. 17/07: I was fishing the last week, and I can tell you, the first day, I was casting along the shore, for the entire morning and I got Outstanding action, using top water was the best, 4.5Lb, We were guiding about 9 people in our boats, we had some time for break, we comeback to shore and had this little break an comeback fishing, the weather was perfect to find the fish on the little trees, and was there but still nothing bigger than a 3 Lb., so we moved to a new spot, this was only 60 yards from the shore, the wind was a little hard, like every afternoon, so we started casting with one of my fever lure, and we spent around from 1:15PM to 4:15PM, right there, every where they cast, bang, they caught a fish, I don lie if I tell you, we have like three o four triples, and over 15 doubles, in three (3) Hours each of them caught at least 40 fish, 9.5 Lb. biggest, 8, 7 , 6 , 5, 4 Lbs. and also probably we lost in that area 40% or 60% of the fish we caught.
Like the tour we called, it was an Amazing, we got quickly, tired, Happy as always, bob and Kirt was the 4 year in Lake El Salto, on the last 3, was good fishing but this time was something else!
For years I have been buying all my stuff on line at Bass Pro Shop, but I have to tell you this, for me using the bait casting is my fever the monofilament, 17 to 20 Lb test. And 25 fluorocarbon, 14 to 15 Lb, Mono on spinning reels, but from last 3 years the braid line, is the best way to fish at lake el Salto, they were fishing in my favorite hot spot, we cast three different colors on the lures but only one color was the right one, so the problem was the line on one of the reel was a fluorocarbon 12 Lb test, so I was worried about the lure, every three o four fish caught
I retied, the lure, you know, so, on one of that fish, we were trying to get on the net, and bob got one on his line almost on the same size, so I tell them play a little, but when we get close to the net the fish broke the line, and I tide one similar but I was still worried because, the line will brake again, so like 10 minutes later the fish was jumping close to the boat to lose the lure and I got the net, I continue for a few minutes an got the lure back, so I retied this lure an comeback the action, but Kirt was worried this time as soon as he caught a fish, he was playing with the drag on the reel for no force the line, he was losing time, getting the fish on the boat, and telling to Bob, this will be the last time I use small diameter on fishing line when came to Lake El Salto, and for sure, I will have on mi reel, braid line, Kirt said, and if is premium Exel, much better because Hono, recommended!
I will tell you is the hard way to decided to get the right staff, but is fore sure if you get the right tackle and equipment, also the right guide, you get the best fishing time ever! |

Fortunately this raining seasons has been great and Lake El Salto is getting the normal water levels; up todate it shows a 80% but we hope at the end of September will be full up to capacity.
The structures are just great, although you can not see nothing with 5´ or more of water, but the bass have the perfect covers and it is there just waiting for you!

| I was fishing the last week, and I can tell you, the first day, before we get on the boat, I was casting along the shore, for 10 minutes right there, where we were dropping the boat, and I lost one, but I caught 7, the biggest was 5 Lb, well I will tell you, probably the deep was like 12”, and the whole area was full of grass and you can believed, I was casting almost on the shore, and you can actually see the fish swimming on the top of the water trying to get my lure, after this action I get so exciting, so I started to do the same fishing, inside on the lake everywhere was perfect, to cast my fever lure, but my intention was working by testing the lures and not having fun, myself, so back to work! I spend like 11 hour casting all kind of lures. |
| For years I have been buying all my stuff on line at Bass Pro Shop, but I have never been able to visit a store, till last July 20, on the opening of Rancho Cucamonga Ca; as you can imagine, I felt like fish in the water; they had everything to catch a Trophy Bass, The only thing you need, after being in the store is getting a guide, to tell you what you need to get a Trophy at Lake El Salto. |
Well, that is my job right ? Let me tell you it was not easy to get the best lure selection because there are a lot of things in mind, like prices, amount of items per package, if it is plastic or hard lures, the quality, appropriate colors, sizes, deep, lines, etc. because there are a lot of items and some are available to be used the whole year, but we must have the right Gear and Tackle for Lake El Salto, so we are ready to new Season 2007 / 2008.
We insist to have the right Tackle according to the time frame you will fish with us. We will not try to rip you off by selling expensive lures on site. There are other outfitters that will not tell you the right lures before your arrival as they want you to buy these expensive lures in their own tackle stores. Opposite to them, we prefer to provide a list of lures so you can get the right tackle at your home. Our closest tackle store is located about 800 miles, so it is not easy to get the right lures at the very last minute and once in Mexico.
Anyway, this is your choice, so if you do not want to bring your own tackle you can rent ours for a small fee. I know it could be a hassle checking and retrieving rods and tackle at the airports, mostly with latest airline regulations.

I discovered El Salto and the biggest bass of my life by accident.
My wife had planned our family trip to Mazatlan over Spring Break and was sent information on Bass El Salto from my brother who had previously considered a trip with friends.
I am always up for fishing and a little researching on the web convinced me that this could truly be an extraordinary experience.

Hono picked me up early in the AM at my hotel and were on the water fishing by 6:30. I opted to rent equipment for ease of travel which worked to my advantage as Hono was having success with a technique/lure (trade secret) that I had never used before. The fish were jumping everywhere around us in the calm of morning. We quickly caught several respectable fish and then I set the hook on a big one. It made runs like a muskie or large northern pike (not like the bass I catch in Minnesota) and began to pull the boat. Hono saw the fish before I did and got excited. I was shocked when I finally saw the largemouth along side the boat.
The picture says it all, but here are the details. At 7:15 AM with the sun just rising above the mountains, I caught a 25.5 inch bass weighing 11 pounds. It was released back into the lake as are all bass at this amazing lake. |

Our main tour is Day Trip, to El Salto, we are very focused to provide the best fishing time, this means you get the right tackle, to catch a trophy of your life. Our operation can handled 8 to 10 peoples per day as it is a small operation, because Hono like to fish too, therefore from time to time, he might be your guide. But before you start to fish he will check you tackle an give you the right lure selection and briefing. He will inform to everybody how select the lure for every cast, as well as on the different spots you will be fishing.
Our Day Trip is quite different other outfitters at El Salto. We offer 10 Hours of Fishing, as our experience while fishing El SALTO is the best selection as a result of 12 years fishing LAKE EL SALTO waters. We just schedule a small break, to eat the lunch (30 Minutes), and comeback to Fish, and finish till 4:00 PM. Therefore you are back to your Hotel in Mazatlan around 6:00 PM if you are doing a DAY TRIP and earlier if you are staying at our Lodge to enjoy a nice dinner, get some sleep and get ready for next day. |
We don’t play games with our customers, by telling this or that lure was working well last months as these, change. We provide with a list of lures, which it is guarantee you will catch your trophy, on the time frame you are planning to be at the lake; of course, this means, your personal guide will be guiding you to include everything, high levels & low levels, trees, rock, walls, roadbeds, etc.
The reason we do not specify a list of lures in the web, is because fishing at Lake El Salto, is different day by day, month and year. We are the ones advising our loyal customers what to bring according to the dates they are coming. We are not irresponsible by posting a bunch of lures as some people could buy thousand and thousand of tackle and find out these are not working at El Salto by the time they come to fish.
The list we give to you, is the best way, you will find specials and good prices at tackle stores near to you.
Anyway if you don’t want to carry your tackle, due to the problems with the air companies, etc., Hono will be happy to supply this on your behalf; the tackle Fee is only $70.00 USD per person per day of fishing, and you only, will bring the reels you love.
