Fishing Report

A Big One!
Image:

11/05/10.- As usual, just good news from Lake El Salto. A friend contacted me via Facebook and he made me think a little.

Well, you know when we guide any customer, we are always focusing on providing the same action and success for next customer; sometimes and if it is their first time at El Salto, it takes time to teach them about the right was to hook and catch a trophy, but we do this without hesitance on a daily basis and our customers recognize our efforts to make them succeed. That is a rewarding experience and we appreciate it.

You see, this is our main goal. Another satisfied customer, Arturo wrote this: “ Lake El Salto for us is DISNEY BASSLAND ( fun and recreation for the whole world ) “ and yes, it is true. This is the same discovery wheter you are beginner, amateur, non boater, boater, semi-pro, and even Pro.

On the other hand, let me offer a fishing report two Brazilian friends ( Tuco & Glauco ) put together for me; it was originally written in Portuguese, so we spent time translating this to English and Spanish.

Tuco Fishing Report

8/12/10 Hola Amigos, as usual just good news from Lake El Salto. The latest three weeks we have been having some rain so the lake is getting a lot of water, so we expect normal levels by next month.

Last week was a little busy despite of the warm weather. We took a couple from Louisiana. He was pretty interested in the lake and its surroundings. Jason K. Was making a lot of questions and I answered all of them. I later found out he was an Outdoor Writer for a Magazine in Louisiana. I never suspected anything because Jason booked his trip online and never told me he was a writer. He promissed, he will write a fishing report and post it online, so keep checking their website www.marshandbayou.com.

Of course Jason and his wife were very surprised about the kind of fishing they were enjoying, about the lake and all the information I told them about. Jason was more than happy as he broke his own record of 6 Lbs as he caught several 6, 7, 8 and 9 Lbs and the best of it, at the end of the day he caught a 10 + !!!

Lake El Salto & Mazatlan:Lake El Salto Latitude is: 24.126662792253647 / Longitude: -106.73440933227539, that is our place !

For those whom are interested to know the directions to find Mazatlan, here they are: L/L: 23° 13' 0" N / 106° 25' 0" W. Some people find some trouble to find us because there is another Mazatlan, Guerrero ( 1,300 Miles south ) that has been registered as Mazatlan, Mexico, the same way we call it down here, so make sure to google Mazatlan & find us easier.

On the other hand, last Wednesday I took a couple, father and son from Pennsylvania and the same story, a lot of success in numbers and sizes. They counted about 80 bass combined so they were pretty happy all day long.

Here it is an amazing pic from May – drought season – 23%of the lake level and it looks like 60`low, but it was the end of the farming season, so the lake got the lowest of its history.

Now, take a look at another pic showing the same place in August, just last Wednesday and after some rain; and look at the difference ! Amazing right ? The small hill shows green vegetation and more water on the lake !

I decided to measure how fast the lake is getting more water. In 8 hours the lake got 3.5”. This is awesome news as the lake is 27 000 acres long so by the end of August the lake must be fully recovered as it will get .44”per hour; this means there has been a lot of rain up in the mountains. If we get more rain the way it is right now, the lake will be 100% level pretty soon

On the other hand, I registered about 19 baby bass in just One Square Feet; these were in the range of 1.5to 4”, this means the spawn is taking place again. This is not a surprise for us, because the scenario is perfect for this; the weather, warm, plancton, etc. For new baby bass the new waters bring a lot of food needed to grow healthy.

In this picture we can see how healthy is this lake, this Fry show us the multiple baits they have available to become some monster bass; all they do is just eat & rock and roll ! LOL

This picture will tell us the influence of global warming but it is not; the most best kept secret is warm, hot, heat and plancton, that`s all they need.

The average temperature 91F- 33C, we are in the middle of Summer, and the same tendency will be till October when another Spawning season starts again.

For those whom chase the Spawning Season, they will be happy to learn at Lake El Salto, they will have multiple chances to do so as we register at least three Spawning seasons.

I strongly advice to follow your Guide`s instructions. My way to Guide is way different as I love to fish and catch a lot of fish, but I like my customers get the best of the best, you know, mostly knowledge about our bass fishing skills, and the most important any single customers must be capable to catch their own trophies. That is the reason why I like to provide accurate information on tackle and equipment, because Lake El Salto is a lot different to any lake in USA, Canada and other countries!

Lots of people are forced to change their techniques and having the right tackle; this is the key to succeed at Lake El Salto. Although selling lures at the lake is not my main business, I do have the right tackle available for sale on each boat, just in case if people happened to fail in bringing the right stuff.

Our Pro Guides and myself work pretty hard to show our customers about the best techniques to make them succeed at El Salto and the rules are quite simple:

1.- The Right Lake
2.- The Right Guide
3.- The Right Tackle
4.- The Right Lure

In my case, when I make the lure testing I like to cast from the shore line of the lake, not at any hot spot as it is easy to catch a monster. The best way is try the hard way. This time I tried a  Soft plastic bait; I caught  6 bass, in one Hour, 2, 3, 6 Lb. The biggest. I also tried the hard bait, topwater lure and the same in one Hour over 7 fish.

Like these, are coming with a prize, a 3/8 rattle trap lure hooked in the right size of his mouth. A true surprise was the 25 Lb Pound Test, and the fish was not really over the 4 Lbs. My advice is to use fresh line all the time; if you use the same line, day after days fishing, it will not have the same support as the quality is not enough to hold the Lake El Salto Bass.

I am ready to commit myself and tell you,  hey ! if you bring the right tackle you will get the best fishing ever !

See you guys in the next fishing report!

Wen.7/13 Awesome weather ! Awesome Fishing !
I have been answering a lot and I mean a lot of contacts in facebook from people that truly love Bass Fishing action at all levels.

It is my impression that more and more wives join their husbands in the hunt of the Bass; some at their home lakes, but surprisingly many are willing to travel all the way down to famous Lake El Salto as they want to witness the Premier bass fishing action.

More and more women are getting involved in the extreme sports; not only in bass fishing, but also in the Hunt. Bass Fishermen and Hunters have gained a partner for a lifetime and that is great news !

Nearly 80% of my new friends are women and they either bass fish or hunt and many many more both. Even my wife said what a surprise !

For instance in my family, my eldest daughter loves to do some bass fishing, Bow hunting and loves the snorkeling; however, my baby daughter does not; she just like to be in the shade and not getting dirty at all, just like her mom hahaha.

That is why my eldest daughter and I like to take some days off our busy schedule to do some bow hunt for coues deer and wild board ( javalines ).

Average: 165-188 B&C, Spread- 28-34: This year, we will schedule a Pheasant Hunt and Mule Deer in Baja California. That`s right ! We will be going behind the trail of the Phantom Desert. Let me tell you, I was a little dissapointed because we will have just 4 days to do so. As you may be aware of, I work REALLY HARD as a full time Bass Master Guide at El Salto.

Anyway, for next year we are planning on signing up fir a Longhorn Sheep Ram in the high Sonora Desert. We will see...

Average 168  / 175 B&C, This is pretty exciting. As soon as you start learning new tactics on fishing or hunting, you start thinking how to improve your skills and there are a lot of new products in the market, so be alert and do some research before buying new stuff.

It is true, you learn a new thing every day. I was working in my laptop last weekend and a friend in the FB chat asked me: “ Hey Hono, what do you know about it ? Some people say the Ram is a Dinosaur ? “ I told him, well the Dodge is quite old hahaha. Anyway, I told him, give me a few minutes to find out more information about it.

I made some research and guess what ? Yes, the Ram is truly a Dinosaur and it has been here for centuries. In the high Desert of Sonora & California, were found some remaining as old as 11 to 7K year. No political discussion, but it was an inmigrant from the Caucasus; burnette, short and no blue eyes. LOL

I was really shocked by the news and we all should show respect for this Trophy Mammal as they are truly a survivor.

And yes, it is true. You learn something every day of your life.

Keep in touch for more news...

6/01/10 EL SALTO FISHING REPORT by Hono Elizalde:

Hola Amigos ! I am glad to stay in touch with you again.  As usual,  we are happy to share our latest  fishing report with you.  Let me tell you Lake El Salto has been very though to catch fish lately; only those with deep knowledge of the lures have been successful, meaning ... us ! hahaha. Fortunately we have accomplished our task as all our customers were (are) really happy with their success.

On the other hand, I can tell you, I was the host of the OKUMA team; one of the most popular rods and reels in the market. They did a field testing in order to find out how these are able to hold the Lake El Salto Trophies.

All these new products will be in the market by August , get ready to buy this hot stuff; one of these will be on the 7.3.1 and the prices will be incredible. I am talking about reels, but the real surprise for me was the light weight, but very strong structure on rods.

They did so using the three most popular lines at Lake El Salto: Mono, Fluorocarbon and Braid. As you may be aware of, extreme action does not affect much the performance of the most expensive rods and reels. Well they asked for the most extreme, so we fished for 3 days top water and deep water, and it was their first time fishing at Lake El Salto; the team from Louisiana were used to fish for red fish in Louisiana, as well as the California Team are used to fish other places in the world.
I am pretty sure they know several ways to fish; however, I am pretty sure they will never forget the new ways to fish, which are distinctive of Hono. Well, those who know me, are aware I have my own way right ? hahaha. They will always remember my way to fish both, Freshwater and Saltwater.

Kevin Ford the TV host from Louisiana Sportsman had the idea of  taking a challenge; the first day John Bretza from Okuma Fishing and I worked a little with the new Okuma performance; he was pushing really extreme action for the combos 7 for him and 7 for me, so we started the most hard examinination on the new performance. We did not wait too long to start giving trebles to these Protos; let me tell you they worked so good, that the total amount in Top Water was a 30 bass, the first 5 hours; after that we made a switch to the rods and reels killers deep divers lures [18 to 22]. I was glad to find out the new rods are so light that you can cast for hours an your arms will not be hurting due to the continued casting. The EVX is phenomenal for crank bait, the C3 is perfect to catch the Trophies at Lake El Salto. Between the three new reels were really not much, difference, but the speed was the most  important subject. The numbers were not the exception on this kind of fishing action as a total of 65 bass were caught the first day.

As the Master Guide and a real Pro at El Salto Adventures ( www.basselsalto.com ), I am always in the search and select the best tackle for my customers and friends. I am very careful at testing all of these before recommending such products; you may feel confident these products are the right ones !

Well, while testing the OKUMA reels and rods I was grateful to find out these are the perfect combination to achieve great results at El Salto. They have enough power and you do not need anything else than the right lure to cast and get it !

I must say that to host the team from Okuma and the one from Louisiana Sportsman, we decided to find a real nice hotel in Mazatlan  and release DAY TRIPS to famous Lake El Salto, that way they can enjoy both world in a single trip to Mexico ! They can come back around 6:00pm, take a shower and go out to enjoy a nice dinner and see some nightlife.

A special thanks to VIAJES EL SABALO and Gloria Tirado for sponsoring the transportation from Airport to Hotel Playa Mazatlan.

The hotel sponsoring the beautiful rooms was the traditional and unique HOTEL PLAYA MAZATLAN; the General Director, Jose M. Castellò was kind enough to provide the rooms to our visitors. I must tell you the hotel has been renovated lately and it looks awesome; it is one of our favorite resorts in Mazatlan, plus holds the most beautiful beach in town !

At the end of the first day, we came back to Mazatlan, I had an incredible experience with this group; since the Okuma Team arrived on Sunday and started fishing on Monday and the Louisiana Sportsman team arrived until Monday, we met them at the lobby of Hotel Playa Mazatlan as it was the home resort for everybody.

By the time the Louisiana Sportsman team arrived, the Okuma team were very spoiled as they started enjoying excellent cuisine and world class Bass Fishing the day before.

There we were, ready to head and enjoy their first dinning experience for the Louisiana Sportsman team and second to the Okuma; our stop was at one of the famous restaurants in Mazatlan, LA CASA COUNTRY just with the right ambience and the food was excellent; they sponsored this dinner and we thank them a lot. Special thanks to Dario Veliz.

They relaxed and started saying the Mexico they have seen, it is nothing about what they hear in the Media in USA, but they see people enjoying themselves, pretty quiet and all the sights are beautiful, so they are the Media too and definetely will tell the truth when they come back as it is not fair to tell the entire country has problems.

We chatted a little and came back to their hotel to get ready for their next day fishing at famous Lake El Salto.

Next day, I picked them up and enjoy a nice breakfast and head to Lake El Salto; as I always do with all my customers/friends, on the way to the Lake I started talking about the fishing techniques, how to use each lure according to the size, rods, reels, etc.

As soon as we arrived to the lake, my Pro Guides Gera & Gaby were waiting for us to take us fishing so we hit the water. At first, the challenge was Top Water lure so we started using a PR and bang ! The first 5 hours was the same success and Kevin Ford from the Louisiana Sportsman was the lucky winner of a beauty of 8.5 Lbs. This was totally a record for Kevin; he used Hono`s techniques of course and were successful at those.

As I told you before, they will remember Hono`s techniques for a long time. They asked me where fish were and I told them where to cast and bang ! another beautiful fish, even though they were hesitant as the spot looked like if they were going to hang on the tree; I push them to cast there and they gave me a look like – this guy is not of any help – but when they did, bang ! another and another; they were amazed as to see one bass they caught in shallow waters, can live up there. They caught several in the range of 6.5 Lbs. And 8.5 Lbs.

After this place, we headed to Hono`s secret spot and casted Fat Free Shad and again, the same story, just good fishing at the end of the day per boat as we caught over 65 fish and we just fished from 6:30am till 2:30pm.

We headed back to Mazatlan to take a shower and get ready for another dinning experience; this time the sponsor of the dinner was the new kid on the Restaurant scene, its name is ALAGUA RESTAURANT, right on the beach and nestled in a beautiful setting, full of gardens, nice decoration, excellent service and delicious Sea Food. So, after drinks and dessert, I dropped them up at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan to get some sleep. Special thanks to Oscar Tirado Jr.

Next day, we headed to Lake El Salto for the last day of fishing up there; we experienced the same story, we started with Top Water; this time Kevin Ford and John Bretza were together for a contest using Top Water; both have the same action lure and I can tell you the action was phenomenal, this time the biggest was for John Bretza with a 7.5 Lbs. And Keving 6.8 Lbs. – you can notice I am not using inflated weights like other outfitters do, for instance my 7.5 Lbs. Would be a 12.0 Lbs. With other outfitters, so watch out ! hahaha – as to the numbers, these were pretty similar than the day before and we fished only from 6:00am till 12:30pm.

They took advantage of the beautiful scenery and filmed all the spots at Lake El Salto and took pics of all the prototypes from OKUMA FISHING.

We came back to Mazatlan  to take a shower and get ready to enjoy another dinning experience; however this time, the Louisiana Sportsman wanted to have an interview with the General Director, so we arranged this with Jose M. Castello aka El Patas; a very nice and kind gentleman. He was kind enough to provide the Hotel plans on its early and near future stages and several interesting facts about Hotel Paya Mazatlan and our beautiful Mazatlan.

The third dinning experience was sponsored by the Restaurant THE PURPLE ONION; the food was excellent, the service phenomenal, great ambiance. You can feel confident you and your family will spend a great time dining at the Purple Onion. Plus you can listen at the famous local singer named EL PUMA and you can buy his CDs. We spent a great night and they had a lot of fun. Special thanks to Howard Gable.

Next day, and after having awesome results at Lake El Salto, we had scheduled a Saltwater trip in the Mar de Cortez waters.

The trip was sponsored by Super Panga from BIBI FLEET and Tadeo Hernandez Kelly and the second Super Panga was sponsored by DOÑA LICHA and Juan Patron; they were very kind to release these vessels at the New Marina for our use.

We headed to perform Deep Sea Fishing with no luck at all; we were told later that due to the El Nino influence Deep Sea Fishing has been very slow lately. That was early in the morning.

Then, we decided to try Bottom Fishing and we caught trigger fish, red snapper, “burros”, grouper. We decided to give a second try so we headed to perform Deep Sea Fishing around 10:00am and this time we were lucky to catch 6 real nice and big Mahi Mahi.

Our Captains worked really hard to find the fish and when we returned to the pier, we witnessed we did greater than other outfitters, I mean they are great !

While at the pier, they took pics and filmed around; the Okuma team tested some new prototypes and were amazed at the results as well.

Since it was early, and we were really hungry, I decided to take them to a local scene, and headed to TACOS CAPEADOS EL GUERO, about 7 blocks from Malecon on the Insurgentes street. We had delicious breaded Shrimp Tacos and some of them tried the stuffed Chile Jalapeño. This was an awesome experience !

Later, I dropped them out at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan so they can take a little nap, take a shower and get ready for their last dinning experience in beautiful Mazatlan.

Their last dinning experience was at the Historical Center, only one block west Plazuela Machado; the name of the restaurant is LORNA RESTO BAR, the place is gorgeous; after ordering some drinks, we ordered dinner and a nice bottle of wine; the food was excellent, the service was great and the ambiance was very New Orleans style as said by the Louisiana team. We want to extend special thanks to Oscar Tirado Jr.

After dinner we walked at the Plazuela Machado, the Opera House, galleries and they got amazed by the spectacular cathedral. They filmed every spot and had beautiful pics. I had a surprise for them, so I drove them up at the CERRO DE LA NEVERIA ( icebox hill ); right at the top, they filmed the entire city and had amazing pics.

I dropped them up at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan so they can have a nice sleep as they were departing next day.

Next day, I picked them up after breakfast on their own and headed to the Mazatlan airport; I said good bye and they left beautiful Mazatlan.

Their story will be in the internet in a few days, so check our website soon www.basselsalto.com and see their fishing reports; I am sure their angle will be awesome too.

Feb. 24/2010 Lake El Salto & Hono  Elizalde Fishing Report

As usual Lake El Salto is producing Mammoth Bass during Fall and Winter !

Some people could say it is not true, but our loyal customers are witnesses of our Unbeatable Success ! Well, for us at El Salto Adventures, our secret is having the right combination of top quality products and our knowledgeable Guiding Service.

We spend time advising our customers about bringing the most accurate Gear & Tackle  as in combination with our Guides, it will be the key to succeed.

In addition we are proud to offer the most cozy and clean lodge, outstanding amenities, delicious meals and the private retreat you are looking for to melt your stress away. All components will make you spend the best and most memorable fishing vacation of your Lifetime. Also, another asset will be that laundry service is included, so you can pack light.

Join the new breed of fishermen that are able to catch REAL TROPHIES at El Salto. I can guarantee, after fishing El Salto, you will be really spoiled... You will find out it is easy to look like a real Pro when fishing with our Guiding Service and using the right Tackle.
Several people usually inquires when it is the Spawning Season; well they get surprised when they learn the Mexican Lobina spawns three times a year ! That`s right ! Three times.
However, based in my personal expertise of more than 16 years, I can tell you being spawning season does not make a big difference ( opposite to US lakes ), the only thing is the Mexican Lobina becomes very picky, so your Guide and right selection of lures are needed in order to catch real trophies.

If you are fishing trying to imitate the Pros you have seen in TV shows it is fine, but you need to ask yourself if that show is from 5 or 3 years ago. Besides they are always under the lead of the sponsors pushing them to have a great video. In addition, it takes 3 to 7 days to edit a 20 minutes of fishing, the trick is they use the same pattern of shirt.

Well, Hono will be able to help you finding the key to succeed spawning or no spawning, rain or shine, full moon or not, etc. Our guides are very well trained and they know every inch of Lake El Salto., so you can rely on them when using our Outfitter company.

Do not bring the lures you are used to fish at your home lakes because these could not work at El Salto. I mean you can, but only to see how they perform at El Salto, just for fun.

I am glad to inform you we have an online Gear & Tackle store in our website and you can place and pay your orders with us; these will be shipped from US stores to your home address. You must place and pay orders at least 1 or 2 months in advance and prior to your arrival. This will ensure you will be bringing just the right stuff. Rest assured, we will nto make you buy thousands of useless Gear & Tackle.

If you do not want to bring your own, you can rent ours for a daily fee; we supply rods, reels, tools and a great assortment of hot lures to hunt the MEGA BASS at El Salto; this way you avoid the payment of airlines, plus they might break your rods in transit.

People also likes to know which are the best months to come and catch trophies; in the past, we used to answer the months of October, November, December,  January, February, March, April & May.

However, since 7 years ago, this changed as the Mexican Lobina became more active, so my guides and I spent quality time testing new and different lures and different seasons, even during Summer the results were a pleasant surprise, so I had to redesign the tackle for every season in order to provide the best success for our customers. In addition, when you fish with our Guiding Service at Lake El Salto, you are able to hone your fishing skills to achieve a great performance at your home lakes.

Wait no more and book your Lifetime Adventure with us today !

Dear Hono, Again I would like to thank yu for such a wonderful fishing trip that I and the other members of Outdoors WEeekly had with you. It was certainly the best bass fishing I have ever had. I learned alot from fishing with you and truly appreciated it. Attached below are the two stories I wrote on our bass fishing. They will be published in the January issue of Outdoors Weekly.com. I hope that you enjoy the stories.

A BASS FISHING PARADISE AT EL SALTO
The fish hit lightly which belied its size. I pulled back to set the hook and felt little movement. The fish surged off and my casting rod was bent in half. I was standing in the middle of the boat as the fish tore off. Before I could tell anyone that I had a fish on I heard Jim at the front of the boat yell that he a fish. I head a splash from his direction as his fish surfaced. I heard Hono, our guide, chuckle.

Jim had just mentioned that he wanted Hono and I to each get a fish at the same time for the film he was taping. But instead it was Jim and I that got the double. My fish stayed deep, pulling steadily against the stiff casting rod. I took a quick look over my shoulder to see Jim’s spinning rod bent in half as his fish rocketed out of the water, sun glistening on its dark green flanks.

The fights were stubbornly tenacious. It took a few minutes for Jim and I to get the fish alongside the boat. Jim got his in first and then I reached over the side to grab my fish and bring it in the boat.

WHEN YOU GO:  The bass fishing at Lake El Salto is some of the best in the world. It is an absolute bass fishing paradise and Cardon Adventure Resort is your headquarters for your fishing adventure at El Salto. Cardon Adventure Resort sits on the beach about an hour north of Mazatlan, Mexico. They provide an all inclusive, comfortable resort that caters to fishermen.

Hono Elizalde, Master Guide and Owner of El Salto Adventures is in partnership with Omar to provide you the best fishing found at Lake El Salto. He has boats and guides ready to go as you arrive. You fish until about noon when you return to the landing for a grilled lunch. A tented awning is set up where Cardon Adventure Resort provides a hot, grilled lunch. You return to the lake and fish for the rest of the afternoon and return to the landing between four and five for the ride back to the resort. Dinner is awaiting as soon as you return.

You are welcome to bring your own fishing equipment. It is recommended that you use sixteen to twenty pound line and reels and rods to handle big fish. It is also recommended to use reels with high gear ratios such as seven to one since you need to set the hook quickly while reeling up any slack line at the same time to keep your fish on the line. If  you do not want to bring your own equipment both casting and spinning gear is provided. We used their equipment and found it to be top of the line gear. Casting rods were six and half or seven foot medium to heavy. Spinning rods were generally about six and a half feet medium to medium heavy.

They also provided the most productive baits for the days fishing. On our trip in mid November plastic flukes were our best baits. According to Hono, the best lures and baits will change from month to month. Before you arrive he will provide a list of the most productive baits during your stay. If you do not bring any baits with you, your guide will have everything you need on the boat for you.

It is warm during the day but in the early morning it can be cool. I would recommend that you wear zip-off leg pants so that you can take off or put on the leggings as needed. A light nylon jacket is also good for the cool mornings. A hour or so after the sun comes up it usually is warm enough to be in shorts and a light, short sleeve shirt.

Additionally, it is a good idea to bring along insect repellent and sun screen. And don’t forget the camera. You will be catching some of the biggest bass of your life at Lake El Salto.

Our friends from Brazil: Jum Tabata and Roald Andreatta showing their trophies.

Well, let me tell you, I have witnessed people fishing other boats at El Salto and they do not seem to catch a lot of fish or trophies.

This might sound incredible for most people,  but not for me. Well I can see why. It is because they are casting the wrong lure. Based in true knowledge and my personal expertise as   Professional Guide, the genuine and aggressive Mexican Bass at El Salto is really picky.

It is true ! When you cast a lure they do not like,  well they just do not bite !

Our key to make you catch your own Trophy Bass is we spend quality time carefully testing a variety of lures and researching valuable information in the pursue of selecting the right tackle list for you. When booking your trip with us, you will receive an accurate list of Tackle according to the time frame you will come to fish.

I have been asked why we do not post the list of Tackle in our Website, and my honest answer is that I will not make you buy hundreds or thousands of expensive  lures that might be useless by the time you arrive to Lake El Salto. Why ? Because that tackle may not be working during the time frame you come to fish.

EL BRUJO

We have been achieving great action this Summer, but our customers were wise enough to pay attention to our advice and purchased just the Tackle we told them to buy. They have used the entire Tackle and some told me: Unbelievable,  I was hesitating at buying this stuff, but this was the one that worked great ! well  to make a long story short,  the TOP LURES I like are:

1. Top Water : Hard Bait & Soft Bait
2. Medium Water : Hard Bait, Wire Bait & Soft Bait
3. Deep Water : Hard Bait & Soft Bait

All of them work perfect, the only difference is the type of lure we used, because this was working  great between years 2000 = 2003 and then this is back again.

We recently hosted a group from Republica Dominicana: Luis T,  Luisito Jr,  Luis M,  & Jose Luis, “El Brujo”. They were catching their tropies using these kind of lures. The Bass Pro lure has been having great success and it is Xps, Bass Pro product. Larry M. run to buy these for your upcoming trip. They have the Payaso colors and they sell those in a kit. Get in touch with me. I know you love to use these minnows.

The Secret lure achieved phenomenal action as usual. This FAM TRIP from Republica Dominicana were very impressed with the kind of action you can achieve at famous El Salto. This was their first time but not the last ! They said this lure was a KILLER LURE !

In addition the soft baits were working great in deep water; lots of these lures were useless for years, but they are back during this season and we anticipate a wonderful and productive season. Rest assured, you will have a large selection of lures to play with at the famous Lake El Salto.

As every year the group of MDM Supply brings the Incentive Group and we were very happy to say hi to old and new friends. They were excited to enjoy the fishing spots in Lake El Salto and Mazatlan. They all are serious fishermen. They enjoyed a bass fishing tournament full of fun and success, as well as a Deep Sea Fishing Tournament in the Emerald waters of the Mar de Cortez.

Well, speaking of the Lake El Salto Tournament, the Rules were: First Bass, Most Fish,  and Trophy Bass.

Also the Marlin Derby Mazatlan was truly a success with awesome results.

Deep Sea Fishing Report

Last week it was exceptional. Mark, Terry,  Jeff & Annette, spent the first day on Serena sport fishing.

we took the two hours chasing  the Pez Gallo( Rooster Fish); we got a  couple of hits, but the waters werr not the right for those.

Therefore,  we moved to the Mahi-Mahi ( Hono Fish) we caught, the first day almost 60 Mahi-Mahi, we landed almost 26, the reason was we were playing light tackle and it was a lot of fun.

We had 4 lines trolling, and here is the secret, it was the kind of live bait.

Any way, trolling or casting, the second day just Mark And Terry, caught a 40 Mahi-Mahi, next day with Serena again, same light tackle, over 40 Mahi-Mahi, 2 Bonitas, and few Sierra Macarelas.

last day  at Serena, Mahi-Mahi and 90 Lb. Sail Fish as a closure on this amazing fishing trip.

We don’t play games with our customers, by telling this or that lure was working well last months as these, change. We provide with a list of lures, which it is guarantee you will catch your trophy, on the time frame you are planning to be at the lake; of course, this means, your personal guide will be guiding you to include everything, high levels & low levels, trees, rock, walls, roadbeds, etc.

The reason we do not specify a list of lures in the web, is because fishing at Lake El Salto, is different day by day, month and year. We are the ones advising our loyal customers what to bring according to the dates they are coming. We are not irresponsible by posting a bunch of lures as some people could buy thousand and thousand of tackle and find out these are not working at El Salto by the time they come to fish.

The list we give to you, is the best way, you will find specials and good prices at tackle stores near to you.

Anyway if you don’t want to carry your tackle, due to the problems with the air companies, etc., Hono will be happy to supply this on your behalf; the tackle Fee is only $70.00 USD per person per day of fishing, and you only, will bring the reels you love.

Lake El Salto
All Time Record

As you may be aware of, www.basselsalto.com & Hono Elizalde have the record at Lake El Salto, with conventional rod & reel, the latest, is the first 10.0 Lbs. However talking about a Bass Fly Fishing, yes Mike & Al, they are the lucky guys and they have their trophies to show their records.
