LAKE EL SALTO BASS FISHING EQUIPMENT
I have seen more big fish lost, unprompted Reels, for bad drags and old/bad line, I can't stress enough the importance of proper tackle maintenance. Remember if you have a question about tackle maintenance try your local tackle shop or e-mail Hono Elizalde.
Reels (Baitcasting OR Spinning); should be lubed regularly and drags checked often.
Rods; check the guides on every rod to make sure that none of your inserts are cracked or missing. A good tip is to use a q-tip to check the guides for cracks or rough surfaces the cotton on the q-tip will stick to any cracks or imperfections in the guides.
Your Casting : Don't forget to check back often for more tips and techniques, Practice Your Casting; Lake El Salto, is a man made lake, you will see it is covered in trees and it will affect the accuracy of your casting, same that can play an important role in your success. If you never fished before in this lake, you should try to get in at least 15 minutes a day of casting practice. The practice will go along way in keeping you out of the trees and in the water where the fish are!

As a guide, for me the reel is very important, Fancy Reel, means nothing if it does not work. Well that is nothing, when you have this, and the reel do not work right, after you caught the first fish, I see a lots of fancy reels broke with 4Lb. Mexican Bass, Fancy or Cheap Reel.
Line capacity, Lake El Salto, is very easy you switch the line every day, because the structures and fishing spot need different way to cast, definitely shore cast = No Trophy Fish!
Hono Do not recommended braid line on the Baitcasting, Braid have a big problem in the Baitcasting reels a the time you set the hook on any fish, at Lake El Salto, the fish is too strong, when you fight with them, the braid line go to deep on the spool, so not all de time you can’t cast, after unhook the fish, you have to cast to other way to get the line out of the spool, is very bad when you will cast and lost the Lure or worst, braid cause too much treble when you get bird nest, very difficult to fix it!

The Spinning Perfect Combination:
A basic rod and reel combination for largemouth bass would be 6 ½ ‘ To 7’ MH, Graphite spinning rod, coupled with a spinning reel loaded with 15 Lb test fluorocarbon/ monofilament fishing line.
A rod of this nature is a great starting point for most anglers, as it is capable of handling a wide-variety of lures and techniques, and is much easier to handle than a Baitcasting.
Ideal for Spinning Reels. Well, after picking the Reel and Rod the next is the line and if it is braid, Premium Excel is My favorite.
